My blog is devoted to ME. Yes Moi! Things I approve/disapprove of in my shopping, traveling, dining, shooting pics, or just walking down the streets of my hood (NYC beybey!). Enjoy!

You need some Fiber in your life!

As we get older, and our metabolism starts to slow down, it is unfortunate that we have to become conscious of our daily fiber intake.  Fiber is an essential factor in digestion and is said to help reduce the risks of heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and other conditions.  Not feeling regular? Well maybe you need to increase the amount of fiber in your diet.  According to the Mayo Clinic, women should be eating at least 21-25 grams, and men should go for about 30-38 grams.  Check out a list of  foods that I found that you may want to add to your diet.

Product: Essie Fill in the Gap

I just picked up Essie Fill in the Gap nail treatment at Duane Reade for $8.50.  This was my first time trying an essie polish, but I've always heard good things (I'm generally an OPI girl). I've been having issues with dry hands and nails for a few months now, so I needed some type of conditioning treatment in a neutral color to wear at work during the week.  This product is fantastic.  It hardens the enamel and fills in any imperfections you may have.  It drys fast and is a matte natural color.  You can use it just as a base coat, but I use it alone on my natural nail.  I haven't had one chip in the polish all day and I'm very rough with my hands and typing all day.  Hopefully in a couple of weeks my nails will be back to their glorious natural state.

Friday the 13th sequel dead!

And thank the heavens I say! I truly do not understand how or why the 2009 remake was so successful.  Is it because the majority of the theater goers never saw or were nerver fans of the original series? The movie just seemed like an extended episode of The CW's Supernatural (sorry Jared Padalecki, I still love you!).  I also had a problem with Jason being a little on the smart side in that movie.  Jason is a known retard and killing machine. Don't turn him into some average Joe serial killer.  I did not find it amusing one bit.  Yeah, I'm really going to roll with the fact that Jason is just going to keep some random white bitch in a cave/hideout for an undetermined amount of time, just because he feels like it? What the fuck for? And why would Jason need a hideout? Piece of shit movie.  Ok Ok, I feel better now.

Unfortunately, I feel that if the new Nightmare on Elm Street does well, the Friday the 13th sequel will quickly get a green light.

Boo.  Boo I say!

Kardashians for bebe

The Kardashians have a new collection at bebe for Spring/Summer 2010.  In my opinion, 85% of it is really trashy and the prices are a bit inflated ($79.00 for a jersey mini dress with a cutout above your booty, i'm guessing to show off your tramp stamp).  However, if your goal is to look like Kim, Kourtney, or Khloe, then go for it.  There were maybe one or two pieces I could see myself wearing, but I doubt I will go running to the store to pick them up.  Maybe if I see them on sale in a couple of weeks.  You be the judge.

New Movie: The Expendables

How geeky am I that I got chills watching this trailer?  I don't even have to say anything except this:

The Expendables
Summer 2010
Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke,  Arnold Frigging Schwarzeneggar!!!  Basically everybody and their grandmomma with muscles is in this movie!

Are you wit me?

New Movie: Grown Ups

I could honestly care less what this movie is about.  I am going to watch it just for the sheer ridiculousness that are Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider.  Being that this is movie has both Happy Madison and SNL ties, I'm sure that its going to be filled with a buttload of funny and cameos. Grown Ups hits theaters June 2010.

Most Gruesome Horror Movie Ever?!

Adam Mason's Pig is touted as the most "gruesome, brutal, unsettling, violent, savage, and despicable..." movie experience ever. Well you got me! Where do I sign up?

Fearnet will be hosting a 24 hour online preview before the movie comes out from Friday, April 23, 2010 at 9pm through Saturday, April 24,2010 at 9pm.

If you are too chicken to check it out, I will let you know how it went.

Glee ♥ Madonna

After a slow premiere episode, Glee came back strong with all Madonna episode.  Surely one of the best episodes they have ever had.  I could have done without the guys singing What it feels like for a girl, but I still enjoyed it.  I feel bad for my neighbors who had to hear me sing.

Watch it online free.

Glee Season 2: Sue Sylvester does Vogue

The Avengers (2012)

Due out in theaters sometime in 2012, the live action movie, The Avengers, has the potential to be the best superhero movie ever!  That is if they manage not to fuck it up (e.g. The Incredible Hulk, both versions, The Fantastic Four, etc.).  Joss Whedon of Buffy the Vampire fame is rumored to be on tap as the director, which is a step in the right direction.  Robert Downey, Jr. will reprise his Iron Man role.  Chris Evans is said to be playing Captain America, but that kinda doesn't make any sense.  Isn't he already Johnny Storm of The Fantastic Four, another Marvel character? Sucks balls or not, the makers of this movie are going to make a buttload of money off of fans like me who will go see it regardless.

My two new favorite shows: Pawn Stars and American Pickers

My two new favorite reality tv shows are The History Channel's Pawn Stars and American Pickers.  Both shows are glossy versions of the Antique Roadshow.  They build you up with a story of some piece of junk that has been lying around someone's house, only to find out that its worth alot of money (say wha?!), or the direct opposite, someone walks in with something they think is valuable, only to be told it's a $5 piece of junk. Doh! Love last night's episode of American Pickers.  A happy couple moved into this kitschy home filled with what they thought were hard to find antiques.  Turns out everything they owned was a reproduction or flat out pieces of junk! The look on their face was priceless.

Both shows come on back to back on Monday nights.

Glee Season 2 premieres April 13th

Surprisingly, one of my favorite new shows to come out in the past few years, Glee Season 2 premieres Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 9:28pm after American Idol.  I honestly just want to see Sue Sylvester's version of Madonna's Vogue!

New Show: Treme

HBO's new series Treme starts this Sunday at 10pm.  It's sure to not disappoint, as it was written by the creator of The Wire, my all time favorite HBO show.  It promises to give us an intimate look at post-Katrina New Orleans, in the same way they did the streets of Baltimore.  The cast includes a lot of familiar faces from previous HBO series, including The Wire and The Corner.

Dead and Gone out in stores today!

Just a reminder to you Sookie Stackhouse fans.  Dead and Gone is out in paperback today.  I will be spending my lunch hour at Borders!

True Blood graphic novel!!!

Gee thanks!  Add one more series to the list for me to get addicted to.  Due out in stores on July 21st, the True Blood graphic novel is set to follow the HBO series and not the books by Charlaine Harris.  Either way, I will be coming out of my pockets and lining up at Borders on July 21st! See you there.

Vampire Lovers Must Read: The Strain

There are very few horror novels that actually "scare" me.  The first book in Guillermo Del Toro's The Strain Trilogy managed to scare the shit out of me! Especially when read on the subway at night.  Set in modern day New York, vampirism spreads across the city like a virus and no one is safe. He managed to throw a monkey wrench in all of my escape routes and survival plans "just in case aliens/vampires/zombies take over New York". If you are familiar with Guillermo Del Toro's work (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy, The Orphanage), then you already understand how beautifully dark and creepy his stories are.

Definitely a must read before Part 2: The Devouring comes out this summer!
FYI: You can watch both Pan's Labyrinth and The Orphanage instantly on Netflix now.

Freddy Kruger Nike Dunks

Ok, I'm cutting off anyone who knew about these sneakers when they came out back in 2007. I just checked ebay and they are being auctioned off from $400-$1200!!

New Show: The Real L Word

I am so late on this.  Showtime is premiering The Real L Word on June 20th.  It's suppose to be The L Word meets Sex and the City.  The cast descriptions are interesting.  But like most reality shows, you never really know what direction the show will lead after editing.  Definitely a must see.

The Budget Traveller: Mystic, CT Part I

So what, call me a geek! I love Mystic, Connecticut. You can catch me there 2-3 times a year and I never get tired of it. I will not stop going until I have seen and EATEN everything in the area.  Therefore, I have decided to create a multi-part series for anyone who travels on a budget (like moi), and wants to check it out in the future.  Yes, I am the Mystic, CT travel expert and I know where to catch a deal or two!

For those of you not in the know, Mystic, CT is a small coastal town, approximately 350 years old.  You can get there in about 3 hours by car from NYC, and less than an hour from Hartford.  Both Peter Pan and Amtrak offer service to Mystic from New York City.  It is filled with great places to visit (Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium), delicious cuisine, art galleries, exhibits, quaint shops, and it's also in very close proximity to both Foxwoods and Mohegan casinos.  But I will get more into that later.  I hope you enjoy.

Graphic Novel Series: Stephen's King's The Dark Tower

I am a huge fan of Stephen King, and yet, I have never read any of the books from The Dark Tower series.  I do recall reading The Little Sisters of Eluria in Stephen King's, Everything's Eventual, which is a short story that features The Dark Tower's main character.

I just happen to be looking through the graphic novels at New York Public Library and came across The Gunslinger Born, the first book in the series.  It follows the main character, Roland Deschain, a young gunslinger coming of age in a world overshadowed by evil forces and supernatural occurences.  The stories, like the graphics, are bold, dark, and violent.  I'm currently reading book #3 in the series, Treachery, and the story line has yet to disappoint.
