New Movie: Fast Five
Way too much clothing being worn by these swolled brothas (+ Paul Walker) in the trailer. Now tell me again why I would watch this movie if I'm not given even the slightest bit of hope they would get nekid? Check the trailer.
No one curses better than Samuel L. Jackson...
If I ever meet him, I'm going to have him record a ringtone that says "Pick up the Phone, Mutherfucker!"

Christmas Movies: Edward Scissorhands
I really don't want to get into how much I'm in love with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, both separately and when they collaborate. It would take entirely too long. Edward Scissorhands is almost the perfect Christmas movie, especially for those of us who love the bizarre. However, even behind the fantasic Burton visuals, the message is clear, never judge a book by its cover.

New TV Show: Being Human
Well kinda new. Being Human is the American version of a British show of the same title that has been on for quite awhile. I've watched the first episode of the original series and it didn't do much for me. I'm hoping the SyFy version isn't as corny.
The premise: Three twenty-somethings share a house and try to live a normal life despite being a ghost, a werewolf and a vampire.

Nerd Alert! Twilight Zone Marathon
The SyFy channel is hosting a Twilight Zone New Years Eve marathon starting at 8am on December 31st!
Christmas Movies: Gremlins
I know I'm not the only one who walked out of the theater after seeing Gremlins, a little terrified (hey I was 6), but also thinking, if someone gave me a mawgwai for Christmas, I totally would not get him wet!
If you have never seen this movie, I hereby label you un-American and will be calling the Department of National Security and telling them you are a terrorist!
Christmas Movies: Child's Play
Dear Mom,
Thanks for giving me the serial killer possessed murderous doll for Christmas. It's what I always wanted.
Love, Andy.
I'm almost certain no child asked for a My Buddy Doll after Child's Play came out ever again.

Christmas Movies: And All Through the House...
Tales from the Crypt's And All Through the House (S1E2) is a straight up classic. I've been re-watching the first two seasons (they were on sale at Target) and this episode is in my top five.
Story: A married woman, who has been a little naughty this Christmas, receives her gift early in the form of an escaped axe wielding mental patient wearing a Santa costume.
Check my dude Larry Drake, aka Dr. Giggles, aka the retard from LA Law, as the mental patient Santa. You can watch for free on YouTube.
Christmas Movies: A Christmas Tale
I personally enjoy the more strange and unusual type of Christmas movies. How many times can you really sit through A Miracle on 34th Street? One such movie is Cuento de navidad (A Christmas Tale), which was originally apart of the horror series, Six Films to Keep You Awake. The movie is Spanish language with subtitles, about a group of kids in the early 80s (retro references are hilarious) who stumble upon a woman dressed as Santa, who is trapped in a hole in the woods. The biggest star in the movie is Ivana Baquero, who was the little girl in Pan's Labryinth.
Check the trailer below or watch online free here.

CW's Supernatural turned into a Japanese Anime
You gotta love the Japanese. They've created an anime version of the CW's Supernatural. The story line will follow loosely that of Season One. The Japanese import will be released on DVD on February 23. I'm posting this to my calendar so I'll let you know where I find it.
Check the Japanese trailer below.

Movie: Dolls
Dolls (1987). How have I never seen this movie ? The special FX...horrible. The story...horrible. The acting...even worse. With that said, I loved it!
Judy, is a imaginative and precocious 7 year old girl who gets stranded in the middle of nowhere with her unloving father and wicked stepmother. They come upon a creepy mansion owned by an old dollmaker and his wife who are alot more than they claimed to be. Also stranded are the young at heart Ralph, and two punk rock girls he picked up on the side of the road.
Murderous dolls come to life blah blah blah. I don't want to give too much away. Horror fans check it out on Netflix instant.
Random fact: one of the "punk rock girls" is the chick from A-ha's "Take On Me" video.

Random...
F.U., but I didn't know that Mr. Blonde from Reservoir Dogs is the brother of Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction, and Quentin Tarantino was actually thinking of making a movie, The Vega Brothers. If both actors (Michael Madsen and John Travolta) weren't so old and bloated, that could have been awesome!

Movies Opening Friday, December 10th...
Here are your new movie listings for December 10th. Click the links to check the trailers.
The Tourist. I'm defintely not in a rush to see Angelina Jolie making out with my Johnny Depp. The story, American tourist that gets caught up in international espionage, reads a bit played out, but I'm sure the actors will be able to spice it up a bit.
The Tempest. Julie Taymor's take on the Shakespeare play starring Helen Mirren, Alfred Molina, and Djimon Hounsou. Can't see the big rush to check this out. I'll catch it when it comes on HBO. The movie is beautifully filmed I give it that.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of Dawn Treader. This series has yet to make an impression on me. How many films are there, two, three? I'm not sure I've seen the first movie all the way through and I have no desire to start the book series. But I guess the kiddies need something to watch.
The Fighter. Marky Mark...pass. However, Christian Bale's co-starring role makes it possible that I may watch it in the future.

New Movie: I Am Number Four
Hollywood's new attempt to capture the teen market...Aliens! I Am Number Four is based the first book of the young adult scifi series, the Lorien Legacies (churned out by the James Frey writers factory, yes that James Frey!). It looks interesting enough, but I'm not sure it has the following to knock the Twilight series off its ass.
Plot: John is an extraordinary teen, masking his true identity and passing as a typical high school student to elude a deadly enemy seeking to destroy him. Three like him have already been killed ... he is Number Four.
Check the trailer I Am Number Four hits theaters February 18th and stars Timothy Olyphant (Deadwood) as probably the oldest dude in the movie and the blonde chick from Glee.
Wadsworth Atheneum Festival of Trees
A long tradition in Hartford for the past 37 years, the Wadsworth Atheneum's Festival of Trees kicked off on December 2, 2010. Shout out to Hockanum Elementary School Glee Club alumni, as we use to sing at the festival every year. I don't remember the duration being so short, but it appears the exhibit ends on December 12th.
The Festival of Trees showcases over 200 creatively decorated trees, wreaths and more. There are tons of activities for the family scheduled this weekend as well. Check the link for more info.

The Gays are IN This Christmas Season...
...with the openings of two very promising movies (both in theaters today).
First off is the much anticipated Black Swan starring Natalie Portman as a prima ballerina in NYC, and Mila Kunis as her rival. There is a much talked about love scene between the two. Not sure if I'm that excited about it since they both have the bodies of 10 year old boys. Did anyone else know they resurrected Winona Ryder in this movie? Any hoo, despite my feelings about Natalie Portman, this movie looks really good. Check the trailer.
Second, is I Love You Phillip Morris in which Jim Carrey plays a married cop who reassesses his life after a near death experience, only to become a flamboyantly homosexual conman, who falls in love with a cell mate. The premise is out there, but Jim Carrey has the ability to pull Oscar worthy performances out of his ass.

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena
Spartacus: Gods of the Arena airs in January 21, 2011.
Amazing Strangers!!
Ok this is the illest NYC vid I've seen in awhile. Graphic artist Normal Bob filmed scenes entirely in Union Square Park and set it to LCD Soundsystems' "New York I Love You, But You're Bringing Me Down". This video/song sums up my feelings about the city EXACTLY! Check out Amazing Strangers below:
New Movie: Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus
Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus starring Jaleel White aka Steve Urkel? Yes Please! The straight to DVD flick is in stores (hehe) on December 21st! I don't think I can wait for SyFy on this one. I may have to find the bootleg man.
In the meantime, check out the movie that started it all, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus starring Debbie Gibson and Lorenzo Lamas on Netflix instant!

Celebrity Rehab Season Four
Is it me, or was Season 4 of VH1's Celebrity Rehab not advertised AT ALL? I totally missed the Season Premiere last night, but I have posted it below for you. It could be that Dr. Drew knew that this season he couldn't pull the hot mess star power of previous seasons. The biggest star on the show is Eric Roberts and the rest are reality show rejects. Season Four rehabers include:
Jason Davis
Janice Dickinson
Leif Garrett
Jeremy London
Frankie
Rachel Uchitel
Jason Wahler

30 Seconds to Mars mini movie...Hurricane
Yeah so what, I know 30 Seconds to Mars is fronted by Jordan Catalano from My So Called Life. Yes sometimes they seem a little put together with the eyeliner and crazy hairdos, but I kinda like them. Dude can actually sing and the songs are pretty good. Check out the band's new mini-movie/video directed by Jared Leto himself for Hurricane: This is a Dream.

New Movie: Frankie and Alice
Looks like Halle Berry is aiming for Oscar #2. In Frankie and Alice, Halle plays a woman with dissociative identity disorder (multiple personalities). One of which is a racist white woman! Now that the actual trailer is out, I'm kinda interested. Check it out below. Frankie and Alice also stars Stellan Skarsgard (Eric Northman's dad) and Phylicia Rashad.
Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Tonight...
You won't catch me in this area tonight, but for those of you interested. The Rockefeller Center Tree lighting event starts tonight at 7pm. Live performances by Sheryl Crow, Jessica Simpson, Josh Groban and Charice. But if you are not down there already scoping out your spot, good luck! Cops are in full force so leave your huge bags of stuff at home unless you feel like getting checked.

New Movie: Cowboys & Aliens
Even though it's another movie adaptation of a graphic novel that I've never heard of, I'm riding with Cowboys & Aliens based soley on the fact that it's directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, Swingers) and stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Sam Rockwell.
Plot: Aliens and Cowboys, duh!

Hartford Festival of Light
This makes perfect sense and I'm not sure why they didnt' do this years ago.
After 47 years, The Hartford Festival of Light moves from Constitution Plaza in Hartford, CT to Bushnell Park. The location is centrally located and makes parking and dining much easier on visiters. The event hosted by Santa himself begins on November 26th at 5:30pm. Hartford is also getting a little fancy and is opening its first ever ice skating rink that will remain open for four weeks, ending on January 6, 2011.
My Thanksgiving Turkey Secret...
No one has time to look for one of those fancy containers that Martha has to store your turkey overnight as it brines. Pick up one of these bad boys from Home Depot for $3. Its big enough for your turkey to fit in nicely, but small enough to fit on the bottom shelf of your fridge and still be able to close the door!
Movies Opening November 12th
November 12th is not a great week for new movies. Here is what's starting this Friday...
Unstoppable starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. Dear Denzel, haven't you already done a train movie?
Morning Glory starring Rachel McAdams and Harrison Ford. Devil Wears Prada meets The Today Show. Snooze!
Skyline. Alien invasion flick starring no one of any importance. Great graphics probably horrible acting and storyline. Check my previous post for the movie here.

Best Christmas Toy Ever! Part IV
Ok this may actually be, hands down the best toy ever. Please don't hate on me that I still own my original NES with the Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt game and gun. How many hours of your childhood did you waste away trying to save that bitch ass Princess from that motherloving King Koopa, only to get hit by a fireball or fall down into the molten lava? With no memory card!

New Disney Store NYC
Ok I admit, it took me a few months of walking directly past the old Disney Store on Fifth Avenue to realize that it wasn't there anymore, and yet I was a little saddened. Turns out Disney Corp had plans to open bigger, better, and highly interactive store in the heart of tourist central, Times Square (the former Virgin Megastore building). Anyone who has ever been there knows how HUGE the location is. The new store is said to contain an entire princess neighborhood, full scale versions of the characters from Cars, a pixie dust trail, and a storytelling theater.
The new Disney Store, which is located at 1540 Broadway, opens its doors today at 9:30am. The grand opening is being hosted by Mayor Bloomberg with special guests Jordan Sparks and Brooke Shields.

25th Anniversary of Nintendo's Mario Brothers!
It's been 25 years? Man you are old! In celebration of the grand re-opening of Nintendo World at Rockefellar Center and the 25th Anniversary of Mario Brothers, Nintendo is hosting a huge celebratory event on Sunday, November 7th from 12-5pm. This is a free event. It's my understanding you'll be able to play all of the different Mario Brothers games and take photos with Mario himself. Awesome!

Lanvin for H&M
Another high fashion house has decided to create an "affordable" line. Lanvin for H&M hits stores on November 20th. However, with retail prices at $199+ for the dresses, I think the definition of affordable got lost in translation. There are some really cute pieces, but I can't see myself paying that much at H&M. What do you think?
Movies Opening November 5th
Tyler Perry's For Colored Girls...his first adaptation based on the play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow is Enuf by Ntozake Shange. The movie stars Janet Jackson, Thandie Newton, and Kerry Washington. I more than likely won't be running to check out this flick because 1. it's a chick flick and 2. it's a Tyler Perry film.
Check it out for yourself. It may be your type of movie.
127 Hours. Danny Boyle's (Slumdog Millionaire) filmstarring James Franco about that real life dumbass mountain climber who got trapped under a boulder and had to cut his arm off. Really not sure why they had to make a full feature film about this. However, I hear the arm cutting scene is brutal!
Due Date. Robert Downey, Jr. and Zach Galfianakis' road trip movie. Eventhough I feel like I've seen this premise before, I'm sure there will be more than a few laughs. Just not enough to make me want to pay the full movie ticket fee or even use one of my discount passes.
Megamind. Dreamworks 3D Animated film about a super villan's several attempts to conquer the city. I haven't seen any promotion for this film, which leaves me to believe it probably sucks. But if you have little ones, its probably the only thing for them to see. Voice talent includes Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Brad Pitt.

Best Christmas Toys Ever! Part III
I personally didn't have this toy (thanks alot mom), but my neighbor Bobby Cunningham did (shout out to Hockanum Projects). I would go over his house just to play with it because it was so awesome. He-man's Castle Greyskull! All the arguments to see who got to play He-Man (well you were He-man last time!). Castle Greyskull will forever go down in 80s toy awesomeness history. I have the POWER!!!

Best Christmas Toys Ever! Part II
Yes don't hate, but back in 1983, through a family friend hook-up, I was able to receive a Cabbage Patch Doll for Christmas! For those of you who remember, Xavier Roberts, the doll creator, had parents clawing each others eyes out to make sure their child had one of these bad boys under the tree that year. I can remember the big ass box that they came in, their hard ass faces, that yarn hair and just the smell of them. They came in all ethnicities, which was unheard of at that time. They even inspired the much loved Garbage Pail Kids. Over the years, my cabbage patch family grew. I had my original, then came the white premie, the little Hispanic one, and we can't forget the twins.
After awhile, Cabbage Patch dolls popularity dwindled, as newer and hotter toys came out. However I will never forget the absolute joy of receiving that very first one.

Best Christmas Toys Ever! Part 1
Christmas will be upon us in a little over a month, and it always gets me to thinking about all the awesome toys I had. So I've decided to start a little series called...Best Christmas Toys Ever! According to me of course.
Part 1: Barbie and the Rockers
Yeah sure it was a girl's toy, but I remember every item and piece of clothing of this famous 80s Barbie series that I had. Why? Because it was the most awesomest Barbie ever! They were so awesome, that Mattel reproduced the series in 2008.
I had Barbie, the Black one, the Asian one, Derek, the tour bus, and the stage set.

Please Wash Your Hands!!
Listening to someone cough in the office (it doesn't sound muffled or covered at all) has just reminded me to remind you this flu season to please wash your hands, thoroughly and frequently. Just running your hands under the water doesn't cut it. It's a damn shame you have to remind grown folks! Ordering a new bottle of Purell as we speak.

Movies: Trick R Treat
One of the most original horror movies that I've seen in awhile. Trick 'r Treat was in instant classic in my mind after the first time I watched it. The mysterious little Samhain is a scary little bugger. Check it out this Halloween. You won't be disappointed. If you have Fearnet HD channel, they will be playing it for 24hours straight starting at midnight this Saturday.
